Overview
- Katie Fox, 34, died in hospital after being stabbed in the neck near a bus stop on Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm on 7 November.
- Djeison Rafael, 21, of Smethwick, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court and was remanded by District Judge John Bristow for a 12 November Crown Court hearing.
- West Midlands Police say they believe the attack was unprovoked and are working to establish a motive, with specially trained officers supporting the family.
- Rafael also faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on 27 October and 7 November, possession of a Stanley blade, and assaulting a detention escort on 8 November.
- Police have increased patrols in the city centre and appealed for information, sharing a clothing description for the suspect’s movements and saying they are not seeking anyone else.
