Man, 20, Charged in Kansas City Road-Rage Killing Appears in Court
Prosecutors cite traffic cameras, sales records plus a car tracker to place the suspect at the scene.
Overview
- Jackson County prosecutors charged Laken Logan with second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and firing at a motor vehicle in the Sept. 23 shooting death of 57-year-old Cleveland Wright.
- Logan was arrested Oct. 22 and made an initial court appearance Oct. 24; he is held on a $750,000 cash-only bond.
- Investigators reviewed city camera footage showing a black Chevrolet Trax cutting off Wright’s car and aggressively braking before the encounter.
- Detectives matched a recently purchased Trax to Logan through state sales records, then used dealership tracker data obtained by legal filing to place the SUV at the scene and at an address linked to him.
- Court documents detail conflicting accounts, including the victim’s wife describing a driver who yelled "Boy!", a passenger saying Logan wanted to fight and get an apology, and Logan’s alleged statement to detectives, "I killed a man that did not deserve it... and neither did I."
