Mamta Kulkarni Steps Down as Kinnar Akhara Mahamandaleshwar Following Disputes

Mamta Kulkarni, a former Bollywood actress, resigned from her position as Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara, a Hindu religious order, on February 10, 2025.
She alleged that Rs 2 lakh was demanded for her appointment, which was paid by another Mahamandaleshwar, Jai Amba Giri, on her behalf.
Kulkarni claimed her 25 years of spiritual penance under her guru, Shri Chaitanya Gagangiri Maharaj, earned her the honor, but her spiritual credentials were questioned by other saints.
Her appointment on January 24, 2025, during the Maha Kumbh Mela, faced criticism from within the Kinnar Akhara and other religious leaders, leading to her and her mentor's expulsion from the group.
Kulkarni announced she would continue her spiritual path as a 'sadhvi,' despite stepping down from the Mahamandaleshwar role.
