Mamba Reopens After Inspectors Red-Tag Faulty Seat Belts

Inspection documents show worn or non-locking units were replaced the same day after a rider complaint prompted a spot check.

Overview

  • A couple reported holding a young girl in her seat on Oct. 11 when her belt came undone on the 205-foot Mamba at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri, with the moment captured by the ride camera.
  • Following guest reports, the Missouri Division of Fire Safety found more than 20 seat belts or retractors not locking properly during an Oct. 30 spot inspection and red-tagged the ride.
  • Six Flags, the park's parent company, said 18 units were replaced out of an abundance of caution, and Fire Marshal–requested modifications were completed before a same-day reinspection cleared operations.
  • The inspection report listed no other deficiencies, and the park emphasized a multi-layered restraint design with lap bars as the primary system, which inspectors found functional; no serious injuries were reported.
  • State records show the coaster passed its annual April 25 inspection, underscoring how consumer complaints can trigger additional oversight between scheduled reviews.
