Mamadou Sakho Exits Montpellier Following Training Incident with Manager Michel Der Zakarian

Sakho's departure follows an altercation during training, marking his second professional exit due to disciplinary issues; he denies responsibility and cites lack of respect as reason for contract termination.

  • Mamadou Sakho has exited Montpellier after an altercation with manager Michel Der Zakarian during a training session, which led to an agreed contract termination after 10 days of deliberation.
  • Sakho, a former player for Liverpool and Crystal Palace, had only played six times under Der Zakarian since his arrival in February, and has cited a lack of respect as his reason for leaving.
  • The disagreement reportedly escalated when Sakho felt overlooked by Zakarian who did not give him a foul in training and later knocked Zakarian over, however, he denies responsibility for the events.
  • Sakho, through his social media account, expressed his discontent saying, "You have to know how to leave the table when respect is no longer served," further indicating his dissatisfaction with the management.
  • This isn't the first time Sakho has had disciplinary issues in his professional football career - he was removed from Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States in 2016 for repetitively tardiness and didn't play for the club again, transferring to Crystal Palace a year later.
