Mallory Swanson has signed a record-breaking contract with the Chicago Red Stars, making her the highest-paid player in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
The contract is reportedly worth $2 million, including a fifth-year option, and is the longest contract in NWSL history.
Swanson, who joined the Red Stars in 2021, has led the team in goals scored and assists in her 51 appearances.
Despite suffering a knee injury in April 2023 that sidelined her for the rest of the year, Swanson ended 2023 as the USWNT's top goal scorer, having scored seven goals in six appearances.
The NWSL recently increased the salary cap by 40% to $2.75 million and agreed to a landmark four-year media rights deal.
