Overview
- The CBSE post-result re-evaluation portal suffered a malicious attack that targeted its payment interface shortly after the site went live on May 19, producing incorrect fee displays for about 50 Class 12 students.
- The glitch showed payable amounts that swung from Re 1 to nearly ₹67,000–68,000 in affected transactions, and the board has begun processing refunds for students who were overcharged.
- In response, CBSE removed HDFC Bank’s payment gateway and added four public-sector bank payment options to reduce dependence on a single private provider and to harden transaction handling.
- The portal’s infrastructure was migrated to Amazon Web Services and independent technical teams from IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur and the Digital Infrastructure Corporation of India were commissioned to audit code, payment integrations and backend systems.
- CBSE postponed the re-evaluation window and has set a fresh operational date of June 1 while officials say no student data breach has been detected and ministerial oversight and further reviews continue.
