Malcolm X College to Begin $17.5M West Campus Expansion

The expansion will include a new community center and increase student capacity by 50% as enrollment surges.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion is scheduled for Thursday at the former West Side Learning Center in Austin.
The project will feature a 3,000-square-foot Community Center for Training and Learning, serving both students and the local community.
Malcolm X College has experienced a nearly 17% increase in enrollment for the fall of 2024, prompting the need for expanded facilities.
The state of Illinois will contribute at least $5 million towards the expansion, with City Colleges covering the remainder of the costs.
This expansion is the second phase of a three-part plan, following the addition of biology labs and updated furnishings in 2018.
