Overview

  • The trial began on August 15 at the Landgericht Neubrandenburg with prosecutors charging the 24-, 26-, 27- and 42-year-old defendants under German law for gemeinschaftlich versuchten Totschlag and gefährliche Körperverletzung.
  • According to the indictment, the men ambushed two brothers on February 20, repeatedly striking them with a baseball bat and fists even after they fell, causing bone fractures and a skull-base fracture.
  • Two suspects aged 26 and 27 have been held in pretrial detention since late February, while the 24- and 42-year-olds were released under court-imposed conditions.
  • Defense attorneys challenged the indictment’s lack of specific allegations against the youngest defendant and filed for the case’s dismissal, and no witnesses have been heard so far.
  • Eight further hearings are slated through mid-October, beginning on August 25, to hear victim and police testimony and examine medical and forensic evidence.
