Overview

  • An elderly Malaysian couple drove more than 300 km from Kuala Lumpur to Perak on June 30 after watching a viral TikTok video for a non-existent Kuak Skyride cable car attraction.
  • The AI-generated, three-minute clip posted by user kazam_zam under “TV Rakyat” featured a fake news reporter and staged tourists to market the phantom ride.
  • A Gerik hotel staff member, @dyaaaaaaa._, told the couple no such cable car exists and revealed the footage was entirely artificial.
  • Baling District Officer Yazlan Sunardie Che Yahaya and acting police chief Ahmad Salimi Md Ali confirmed the hoax, leading to the video’s takedown and no official complaints.
  • Authorities have urged Malaysians to fact-check viral online content to avoid being misled by advanced synthetic media.
