- The Health Ministry said Friday that as of Aug. 15 there were 58,079 dengue infections and 55 deaths in 2026, a 56.2% rise from the same period last year.
- The early surge was centered in the Klang Valley—Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor—but cases have risen sharply in other states with Perlis up 207% and Johor up 109%.
- Officials have deployed targeted actions such as early case detection, vector control, outbreak management and extra personnel and report those measures are starting to reduce transmission in some areas.
- The ministry blamed unpredictable rainfall combined with hot weather and poorly maintained water‑holding containers in homes, noting more than 70% of Aedes breeding sites were found in residential areas and urging weekly 10‑minute checks and prompt care for fevers.
- Vaccination is not in routine use nationally and private uptake remains low because of cost and limited awareness, so public prevention and local vector control remain the main tools to curb the outbreak.
