Malaysia Extends QR Immigration Trials at Johor Checkpoints to Motorcycles, Pedestrians and Buses

Phased airport rollouts running to February 2026 aim to speed checks, reduce congestion, strengthen border security.

Overview

  • Malaysia expanded its MyNIISe QR clearance on Oct 15 to selected motorcycle, pedestrian and bus lanes at Johor’s BSI and KSAB checkpoints.
  • The pilot began with car lanes on Sept 22 and has drawn more than 80,000 registrations for the MyNIISe app.
  • During the trial, MyBorderPass remains in use for some 400,000 Malaysians, and its QR codes are not interchangeable with MyNIISe, requiring use at separate machines.
  • Trials will be staged next at major airports — KLIA Terminals 1 and 2, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu — and are scheduled to run until Feb 28, 2026.
  • MyNIISe supports entry for travellers from 63 countries and departures for citizens of 71 countries, with valid passports still required under the Immigration Act.
