- Jury head Ashutosh Gowariker announced the 71st National Film Awards in Delhi, recognising films released in 2023 across acting, direction and technical categories.
- Urvashi earned Best Supporting Actress for her role in Ullozhukku and Vijayaraghavan won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Pookkaalam.
- Christo Tomy’s Ullozhukku was named Best Malayalam Film while Mohandas Pallakkotti and Midhun Murali received awards for production design on 2018 and editing on Pookkaalam respectively.
- Documentarian M.K. Ramdas received a special mention in the non-feature category for Nekal–Chronicle of the Paddy Man.
- Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty described the Best Director award for The Kerala Story as “regrettable” and said it diminishes the credibility of the National Film Awards.
