Overview

  • A Thinks Insight & Strategy survey for Lime found that more than half of London cyclists routinely run red lights despite legal risks.
  • The top 10 percent of habitual riders account for roughly two-thirds of all red-light violations in the capital.
  • Cyclists are most prone to jump red lights on work or study commutes, with 36 percent admitting higher risk-taking on those journeys.
  • City of London Police have issued 284 £50 fines to cyclists for red-light offences since January compared with just 25 motorists ticketed at £100 and three licence points.
  • Lime’s forthcoming “Respect the Red” campaign will feature targeted billboards at key junctions to remind riders that running red lights is illegal and dangerous.
