Overview

  • A NASUWT survey found that 51% of Jewish teachers experienced antisemitic incidents in schools since May 2023.
  • 44% of respondents reported swastika graffiti and 39% witnessed or endured Nazi-related comments at their schools.
  • One third of Jewish teachers did not feel able to report antisemitism and more than half of those who did said their complaints were mishandled.
  • Teachers have faced verbal abuse including chants of “free Palestine” and explicit slurs, with some fearful to disclose their religion at work.
  • Community groups including the Jewish Leadership Council and the Board of Deputies have backed a government-led inquiry and comprehensive guidance to address antisemitism from far-right, far-left, and Islamist sources.
