Majority of Americans Trust Air Travel Safety, Poll Reveals

Despite recent incidents and maintenance concerns, a new poll shows that most U.S. adults consider air travel to be safe.

About 70% of U.S. adults believe air travel is 'very' or 'somewhat' safe, according to an AP-NORC poll.
Only 20% of respondents have 'a great deal' of confidence in the maintenance and structural integrity of airplanes.
The poll was conducted following an incident where a panel blew off an Alaska Airlines jet, raising safety questions.
A majority of Americans have confidence in pilots, air traffic controllers, and safety regulations.
Flying is considered safer than driving and rail travel on a per-mile basis, U.S. Department of Transportation figures show.
