Overview

  • Sixty-four percent of U.S. adults say abortion should be legal in most or all cases, matching levels before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
  • About half of respondents believe their state should allow abortion for any reason, indicating stable on-demand backing despite recent declines.
  • At least eight in 10 support abortion access in cases of fetal abnormality, serious health risk to the mother, or pregnancies resulting from rape or incest.
  • Support remains deeply divided by party, with nearly 90 percent of Democrats and roughly 40 percent of Republicans favoring legal abortion in most instances.
  • Just over half back legal measures to protect patients traveling across state lines for abortion and to shield telehealth providers from fines or imprisonment.
