Overview

  • Faults first appeared around 11am BST on July 24 and peaked at about 2:15 pm when Downdetector recorded over 2,600 reports for EE alongside hundreds more for Vodafone, Three and BT landlines.
  • EE, Vodafone and BT acknowledged technical issues on X and service portals, apologised to customers and dispatched engineers to investigate and repair call disruptions.
  • O2’s network remained fully operational, with the provider attributing any failures to calls being placed to affected networks rather than its own infrastructure.
  • Customers of MVNOs relying on EE and Vodafone systems—including 1pMobile, Lyca Mobile, Utility Warehouse, Ecotalk, Co-op Mobile, spusu, VOXI and Asda Mobile—were also unable to make standard calls.
  • Emergency 999 calls and mobile data services continued uninterrupted, and Ofcom’s automatic compensation applies only to landline and broadband outages, leaving mobile refunds at providers’ discretion.
