Major Track Renewal in Pasing Cuts Munich S‑Bahn Capacity

A one-week switch and sleeper renewal reduces available tracks, disrupting S‑Bahn, regional and long‑distance services across Munich.

Overview

  • DB InfraGO will carry out concentrated switch and sleeper renewal in Pasing starting 8 September at 23:00 and running until 14 September at 04:30, which forces a sharply reduced track layout on the Stammstrecke.
  • Only the S2 and S8 will run fully normally during the work week, while most other S‑Bahn lines face major changes, shortened runs or replacement buses on affected sections.
  • The S6 will be replaced by Schienenersatzverkehr (replacement buses) between Pasing and Gauting and several regional trains will skip Pasing or terminate early as many long‑distance stops are canceled due to rerouting.
  • Deutsche Bahn urges passengers to use alternatives such as regional trains, Tram 14 with U5 connection, Tram 19 and U‑bahn options, and warns that peak‑time services will be crowded.
  • The concentrated one‑week window reflects the scale of the works—23 switches, about 900 sleepers and roughly 800 tonnes of ballast—and comes alongside separate BRB timetable changes on the Munich–Buchloe–Füssen corridor from 5 September to 4 October that include accepted alternative services.
