Major Pipeline Leak Disrupts Water Supply in Mumbai Suburbs

A 600-mm diameter water pipeline at Lucky Junction in Bandra West ruptured early Tuesday morning, leading to significant water loss and supply disruptions.
The pipeline supplies water to the Pali Hill reservoir, affecting Bandra West, Khar, and Santacruz areas, with some zones receiving low-pressure water from alternate sources.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has dispatched emergency repair teams and isolated the pipeline to facilitate internal welding and repairs.
Officials attribute the leak to increased pressure on the aging pipeline following recent repairs to another water main in the area.
Residents have been urged to conserve water, with full restoration expected by Wednesday, though some areas may see partial resumption by Tuesday evening.
