Overview
- A massive section of the hillside above the Dhalli–Sanjauli bypass gave way on Thursday, dumping mud, rocks and uprooted trees onto the 34-km road and halting traffic in both directions.
- Authorities immediately closed the bypass, issued an advisory asking motorists to avoid the route, and diverted vehicles onto alternate roads to manage congestion.
- Teams from police, the district administration and the Public Works Department have been deployed with heavy machinery and are working round the clock to remove debris and assess structural safety.
- So far no injuries have been reported, but officials say the full extent of damage to the road and nearby buildings is still being evaluated.
- The bypass is an important alternative route to Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, so its closure is likely to disrupt commuters and raise traffic on other roads during the monsoon season when hillside slips are more common.
