Major German Supermarkets Cut Butter Prices Below €2

Leading grocery chains in Germany reduce the price of 250g packs of butter to €1.99, marking a significant drop from record highs in late 2024.

Lidl initiated the price reduction, prompting competitors like Edeka, Netto, Kaufland, Norma, and Penny to follow suit with similar cuts to their butter prices.
The new price for a 250-gram pack of German brand butter is €1.99, a 20-cent or 9% decrease from the previous price.
Butter prices had reached an all-time high of €2.39 in October 2024 due to reduced milk production and lower fat content caused by factors like the Blauzungenkrankheit disease in livestock.
This marks a continuation of price volatility in recent years, with butter prices ranging from €1.39 in mid-2023 to record highs in late 2024.
Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord have not yet confirmed whether they will join the price reductions, though industry trends suggest they may follow soon.
