Overview
- The FNSEA announced Friday that its members will not join the October 17 purchasing-power mobilization because October is a peak period for harvests, sowing and forage work on farms.
- The Coordination rurale made the same decision, while the left-leaning Confédération paysanne called on its members to join the national protests and urged convergence with other social movements.
- FNSEA president Arnaud Rousseau welcomed the government's recognition of farming stress and the €1 billion released in 2026 emergency measures but warned that the 2027 relaunch plan depends on a 2027 budget that remains uncertain without a parliamentary majority.
- Rousseau said the FNSEA is now discussing coordinated protests in Brussels in November or December to contest a European Commission draft that he says would cut the Common Agricultural Policy budget by about 13–15%.
- Farmers face acute operational pressure from drought-driven forage shortages and simultaneous harvest and sowing tasks, which limit their ability to take part in domestic protests and raise the risk that relief measures may not reach the most strained farms.
