Major Fire Engulfs Commercial Units in Bickerstaffe

A large multi-unit emergency response has prompted public-safety warnings while the cause and any casualties remain unconfirmed.

  • Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 6.16am on Tuesday, June 30 to a commercial building fire on Rainford Road in Bickerstaffe.
  • The blaze involves four single-storey commercial units at a small industrial site near junction 3 of the M58.
  • Fire crews deployed multiple appliances across the day, first sending six engines and later involving as many as ten engines plus specialist units such as a water tank, aerial ladder platform, hose layer and a command unit.
  • Firefighters are using breathing apparatus, multiple water jets and elevated resources and remained at the scene several hours after the blaze began.
  • Authorities advised people who can see or smell smoke to keep windows and doors shut, asked motorists to avoid the immediate area and said drone flights must not be flown near the incident while the cause and any injuries are being investigated.
