Overview
- A multi‑storey building housing a restaurant and apartments caught fire during the night of 20–21 August and was gutted, leaving five people unaccounted for.
- Nearly 100 firefighters from several local brigades and regional rescue teams were mobilized and continued extinguishing and search operations through the morning.
- Fourteen residents escaped the building and emergency teams treated eight injured people on site before sending them to hospitals in Chur, Thusis, Ilanz and Zurich.
- Fire crews reported the blaze began on the second floor, the stairwell collapsed and responders had to open the roof with a crane, which complicated access and searches.
- The Police cantonale des Grisons is working with the public prosecutor on a criminal investigation while local authorities provide shelter and support to those displaced.
