  • Over 135 million Americans were under frost or freeze alerts at the beginning of Halloween, bringing the growing season to an abrupt end. Temperatures dived even below zero in North Dakota.
  • Many regions experienced their first freezing nights of the season, with freeze warnings in effect from Texas to southwest Virginia. Unusually, cold weather from Canada has overtaken most of the country.
  • It's projected to be the most extensive Lower 48 snow cover for any Halloween in the last 20 years. Record snowfalls were noted in several regions-- for instance, Glasgow, Montana, saw 4 inches on the ground.
  • Almost 250 million people experienced below-average temperatures this Halloween, with more than 100 million under frost and freeze warnings. As the cold front moved eastward, record lows were predicted from Texas to Maine.
