Maine's 2nd District Race Heads to Ranked-Choice Runoff

Neither candidate secured a majority, triggering a ranked-choice vote next week to determine the winner.

Overview

Democratic Rep. Jared Golden and Republican Austin Theriault are in a tight race for Maine's 2nd Congressional District.
Golden declared victory, but the official result remains undecided due to the close vote margin.
Maine's ranked-choice voting system will be used to determine the winner as no candidate received more than 50% of the vote.
Theriault plans to request a recount after the ranked-choice tabulation, highlighting the race's historic closeness.
The outcome is pivotal, with control of the U.S. House of Representatives potentially at stake.
