Maine Opens In-Person Absentee Voting for Nov. 4 Election

New voters can register online for the first time this year.

Overview

  • Voters may complete absentee ballots at municipal clerk offices statewide through Oct. 30, the final day to request an absentee ballot.
  • New registrants can sign up online or at municipal offices and Bureau of Motor Vehicles locations, or register on Election Day with proof of residence.
  • Maine’s no-excuse absentee system functions as early voting, with ballots available for in-office completion or for request and return by mail or in person.
  • As of Friday, election officials had received 22,265 absentee requests, issued 14,844 ballots, and logged 45 returns, according to WMTW.
  • Two statewide measures are on the ballot—Question 1 on photo ID and other election-law changes and Question 2 creating a red flag law—with WMTW hosting debates on Oct. 22 and Oct. 30; Washington County voters will weigh an $11 million bond.
