Overview

• Blake Tibbetts, 24, of Cornish, was detained after police probed concerning comments about the University of New England’s Biddeford campus made in a local restaurant.
• Investigators located bomb-making materials at Tibbetts’ Old Limington Road residence during the follow-up search.
• The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the case in coordination with Maine State Police, Biddeford Police, the FBI and the York County district attorney’s office.
• Tibbetts is charged with terrorizing, criminal use of explosives and criminal attempt to cause a catastrophe, and is held at the York County Jail on $500,000 bail after a hospital evaluation.
• UNE told its community it believes the suspect acted alone and reported no known danger to the Biddeford or Portland campuses, with security presence increased.
