Maine Gunman Kills Mother, Motorist, and Himself in Random Shooting Spree

James Davis III fatally shot his mother, Christine Smith, in a moving car before targeting passing vehicles, leaving one dead and two injured, with no motive yet identified.

  • James Davis III, 29, shot and killed his mother, Christine Smith, 47, while they were traveling in a car in Sabattus, Maine, on Wednesday afternoon.
  • After the vehicle stopped on Route 9, Davis exited and began shooting at passing motorists, killing Katherine Williams, 53, and injuring two others, Tyson Turner, 19, and David Wilson, 35.
  • Davis died by suicide at the scene following the shootings, which occurred in broad daylight on a public road.
