Maimará Named UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Village 2025 as Town Sets Nov. 23 Celebration

The UN tourism body honored the Jujuy community for preserving heritage through community-led sustainable tourism.

Overview

  • Maimará’s leaders Susana Prieto and Luis Zerpa accepted the award in Huzhou, China, from UNWTO chief Zurab Pololikashvili and China’s Vice Minister Gao Zheng.
  • Maimará was selected from more than 270 candidates across 65 countries under the Best Tourism Villages program for rural destinations.
  • Colonia Carlos Pellegrini in Corrientes also earned the top distinction for Argentina, with San Javier and Yacanto receiving Upgrade mentions.
  • The municipality announced a Festival al Mejor pueblo turístico on November 23 at Plaza General San Martín featuring artisans, food vendors and cultural performances, where the prize will be formally presented to residents.
  • The town of about 5,000 in the Quebrada de Humahuaca sits below the Paleta del Pintor and sustains agriculture, floriculture and high-altitude viticulture, with tourism growth supported by the Tren Solar.
