Michelle Garza Cervera will direct the film, which is being produced by Radar Pictures and Department M.
The original movie, directed by Curtis Hanson, featured Rebecca De Mornay as a vengeful widow posing as a nanny to infiltrate a family.
Monroe will play the role originally portrayed by Rebecca De Mornay, while the casting for other key roles is still to be announced.
The original film was a box office hit, earning $140 million against a $12 million budget, and the remake aims to capture a similar success.
