Maik Machulla Named Head Coach of Rhein-Neckar Löwen Starting July 2025

The former SG Flensburg-Handewitt coach signs a three-year contract, succeeding Sebastian Hinze at the German handball club.

Maik Machulla, 47, will take over as head coach of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen beginning in July 2025, with a contract running until 2027.
He replaces Sebastian Hinze, who decided not to renew his contract with the two-time German champions.
Machulla previously led SG Flensburg-Handewitt to consecutive German championships in 2018 and 2019 during a highly successful tenure from 2017 to 2023.
After a brief stint with Danish club Aalborg in 2024, Machulla was unexpectedly dismissed in November of the same year.
Rhein-Neckar Löwen management praised Machulla’s experience and ability to build title-contending teams, highlighting his achievements in Flensburg.
