Mahindra Launches Thar OG With New Platform and Introductory Prices

Mahindra describes the Thar OG as a deeper mechanical update on the M_Glyde 4G platform with deliveries from October 11.

Overview

  • Mahindra officially launched the Thar OG on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and published a full variant-wise price list with an introductory ex-showroom starting price of Rs. 10.32 lakh valid for deliveries through November 30.
  • The company confirmed the model now rides on the M_Glyde 4G platform and adds a rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link, frequency dependent damping and electric power steering to improve ride and handling.
  • The range offers three engines across AXT, LXT and ZXT trims: a 1.5‑litre diesel (117 hp), a 2.2‑litre diesel (about 150 hp) and a 2.0‑litre petrol (around 160–174 hp) with mixed RWD/4WD and manual/automatic allocations.
  • Equipment and safety have been stepped up with items such as an electronic locking differential on 4WD models, LED lighting, wireless charging, frequency dependent damping, six airbags on ZXT and an expanded ESP suite.
  • The Thar OG keeps the three‑door lifestyle/off‑road position in a compact segment that includes the Maruti Jimny and Force Gurkha and Mahindra hopes the mechanical upgrades and limited introductory pricing will drive strong early demand.
