MahaRERA Recovers ₹200 Crore for Homebuyers, Intensifies Recovery Efforts
The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority has retrieved 29% of dues from developers and plans to deploy retired revenue officials to expedite further recoveries.
- MahaRERA has recovered ₹200.23 crore from errant developers across 139 real estate projects, representing 29% of the ₹705.62 crore owed to homebuyers.
- The largest recoveries came from Mumbai city (₹46.47 crore), Mumbai suburban (₹76.33 crore), and Pune (₹39.10 crore), with significant arrears still pending in these regions.
- To address slow recoveries, MahaRERA will appoint retired Tahsildars on a pilot basis in district collectorates in Mumbai suburban and Pune, with potential expansion to other districts based on results.
- A total of 1,163 recovery warrants have been issued across Maharashtra, involving 442 projects, with district collectors authorized to recover dues as arrears of land revenue under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.
- MahaRERA prioritizes ensuring that homebuyers receive ordered compensation, which includes interest, refunds, or damages for delayed possession.
