Maharashtra’s 29 Municipal Corporations Vote Thursday After Final Poll Checks

Officials say preparations prioritise voter access through flexible ID rules.

Overview

  • Single-phase polling is on January 15 from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm with counting and results on January 16.
  • Mumbai uses single-member wards with one vote per elector, while the other 28 corporations follow three- or four-member wards requiring multiple sequential votes.
  • Voters can establish identity with the EPIC or any one of 12 approved photo IDs, including Aadhaar, passport, driving licence and PAN.
  • EVMs have undergone first-level checks, ballot setting and sealing, are stored in strong rooms under police guard (including BMC godowns at Vikhroli and Kandivli), and large trained staffs with CCTV/webcasting are deployed across cities.
  • Voter-friendly measures include extensive sanitation drives, wheelchairs and special booths, BMC doorstep delivery of about 85 lakh voter slips with the rest at polling stations, and a state-declared public holiday with paid-leave guidance for workers.
