Maharashtra Ward Map Hearings Wrap in Pune as Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Review Objections

State review of the hearing reports will set the stage for final ward maps, reservations, then election dates under a Supreme Court mandate.

Overview

  • Pune concluded its two-day hearing with 828 attendees against 5,922 written objections, and the designated officer V Radha will submit the report to the state government soon.
  • The Pune plan retains 41 wards with multi-member panels electing 165 corporators, including 40 four-member wards and one five-member ward at Ambegaon–Katraj, with Narhe–Ambegaon drawing the most objections.
  • In Mumbai, BMC officials led by authorised officer Iqbal Singh Chahal heard 277 submissions on day two, bringing the two-day total to 466, with residents challenging changes such as boundary shifts in Kurla East.
  • Navi Mumbai’s hearing drew about 2,500 objections, with BJP leaders alleging gerrymandering favoring Shiv Sena as the proposal moves to 28 multi-member panels electing 111 corporators and folds in 14 new villages without adding wards.
  • Across cities, objections frequently cited ignored natural boundaries and community splits, and officials say they will now compile hearing findings for state approval before reservations are applied and poll schedules are set.
