Overview
- Maharashtra’s cabinet approved a consolidated package spanning Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur, including a new Wadala–CSMT–Gateway Metro Line-11, suburban rail upgrades, metro loans and major road works.
- Metro Line-11 (17.51 km) was cleared with a Rs 23,487.51 crore outlay, to be built largely underground by MMRCL with planned JICA support, with the state accepting loan-repayment responsibility and seeking central equity and subordinate debt.
- The state sanctioned purchase of 238 AC suburban trains under MUTP-3/3A (Rs 4,826 crore) and advanced MUTP-3B corridors, while also greenlighting loans and guarantees for Thane’s circular metro, Pune Metro extensions and Nagpur Metro Phase-II.
- Pune–Lonavala third and fourth lines (about 64 km) were approved at Rs 5,100 crore with a 50:50 Centre–state split and contributions from PMC, PCMC and PMRDA, aiming to separate long-distance/freight from suburban services and boost capacity.
- Separately, Madhya Pradesh okayed revised Jal Jeevan Mission costs to be borne by the state, a 48-km Indore–Ujjain access-controlled expressway under HAM, and a four-lane Harifatak railway overbridge in Ujjain ahead of Simhastha 2028.
