Maharashtra Unveils Rs 31,628-Crore Relief for Flood-Hit Farmers

Payments are slated to begin before Diwali, with the state seeking NDRF reimbursement.

Overview

  • Crops on about 68.7 lakh hectares were damaged across 29 districts and 253 talukas, according to official assessments.
  • The package provides Rs 18,500 per hectare for dryland, Rs 27,000 for seasonal irrigated land, and Rs 32,500 for irrigated land, plus Rs 10,000 per hectare to support rabi sowing.
  • Farmers with washed-out topsoil will receive Rs 47,000 in cash and Rs 3 lakh per hectare through NREGA for land restoration, with Rs 30,000 per damaged well and Rs 32,000 per milch animal.
  • The government says 45 lakh insured farmers will also receive crop-insurance payouts, including Rs 17,000 per hectare for complete loss, in addition to state aid.
  • A formal memorandum to the Centre is being readied even as opposition parties press for a ‘wet drought’ label, higher per-hectare aid and loan waivers; a separate Rs 100-crore fund targets fishermen’s losses.
