Maharashtra Unveils Military Training for First Graders

Launched after recent civil defence drills, the program aims to strengthen national preparedness by weaving character development into early education.

Overview

  • Announced on June 3 by School Education Minister Dada Bhuse, the initiative mandates basic military drills for students starting in Class 1.
  • About 2.5 lakh retired military personnel will lead instruction alongside sports teachers, NCC officers and Scouts and Guides.
  • Officials say the curriculum will instill patriotism, foster discipline and encourage daily physical exercise habits from an early age.
  • The move follows civil defence exercises Operation Abhyas on May 7 and Operation Shield on May 31 in border states to rehearse emergency response.
  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has endorsed the proposal, ensuring full state support for its statewide rollout.
