Maharashtra to Mandate FASTag for All Vehicles Starting April 2025

The new policy aims to streamline toll collection, reduce congestion, and promote cashless transactions across state and national highways.

The Maharashtra government has announced that all vehicles will require FASTag for toll payments beginning April 1, 2025.
Vehicles without FASTag will face a penalty of double the toll fee if alternative payment methods are used.
The mandate applies to toll plazas managed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the Public Works Department (PWD), covering 73 state-run highways.
FASTag uses RFID technology to facilitate automatic toll deductions, eliminating the need for cash transactions or stopping at toll booths.
The policy extends the FASTag system, already mandatory on national highways since 2021, to state highways, aiming to improve transparency and reduce fuel consumption.
