Maharashtra to Legalize Small Plot Subdivisions Made Before 2025

The plan tasks a four-member committee with drafting detailed guidelines within 15 days after legislators offer suggestions

  • Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said plots up to one guntha formed before January 1, 2025, will receive legal status under the eased fragmentation law
  • The committee will include Additional Chief Secretaries from the Revenue and Urban Development departments, the Settlement Commissioner and the Inspector General of Registration
  • Legislators have a seven-day window to submit feedback to the Revenue Department ahead of the SOP finalisation
  • The policy covers plots under municipal corporations, councils and nagar panchayats as well as peri-urban villages extending up to 2 km from major city boundaries
  • Subdivisions made after January 2025 will need to comply strictly with development authority norms for approvals and building permissions
