Maharashtra to Invite Bids Next Month for 98-Year Leases at 150 MSRTC Bus Depot Sites

The longer leases are intended to draw private investment to redevelop depots into modern bus ports.

Overview

  • Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced the plan at a NAREDCO property event in Mumbai.
  • The lease structure will be 49 years extendable by another 49 years, replacing the earlier 30-year model.
  • MSRTC holds more than 13,000 acres at strategic locations, including Kurla and Borivali in Mumbai and towns across the state.
  • The state wants the depots upgraded into 'Bus Ports' on the Gujarat model and has invited real estate developers to participate.
  • Sarnaik also highlighted a forthcoming pod taxi launch in BKC with planned expansion to Mira-Bhayandar and Thane as part of broader mobility initiatives.
