Maharashtra to Enforce ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ Statewide With Number-Plate Scans

Transport officials were ordered to launch digital verification with UID-tagged certificates, with on-site renewals at pumps still being set up.

Overview

  • Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced imminent strict enforcement that will block fuel sales to vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control certificate.
  • CCTV systems at petrol pumps will scan registration numbers to verify PUC status before allowing fuel to be dispensed.
  • Invalid certificates will result in fuel being denied and the PUC being cancelled on the spot, according to officials.
  • Each PUC will carry a unique identity number to deter fraud, alongside a directed crackdown on gangs issuing fake certificates.
  • Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar and Joint Secretary Rajendra Holkar were tasked with the statewide rollout, including plans for renewals at pumps and future issuance via showrooms and garages.
