Maharashtra Tables Rs 57,509.71 Crore Supplementary Demand to Fund Infrastructure and Welfare Schemes

Overview

  • Deputy CM Ajit Pawar tabled a Rs 57,509.71 crore supplementary demand at the start of the Monsoon Session of the legislature.
  • Infrastructure sectors will receive allocations for roads, metro rail projects, irrigation schemes and Rs 1,000 crore for Simhastha Kumbh Mela preparations.
  • Social welfare funding includes Rs 1,600 crore for the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Health Scheme, Rs 1,500 crore for the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Grant Scheme and scholarships for backward class students.
  • The government earmarked Rs 11,042.76 crore for grants recommended by the 15th Finance Commission under centrally sponsored and state schemes.
  • Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Jayant Patil warned that these demands will drive Maharashtra’s revenue deficit past Rs 1 lakh crore, raising concerns over fiscal management.
