Maharashtra Steps Up Drug Fight With ₹29.76-Crore Disposal, Palghar Arrests and 7.95-kg Cocaine Bust

The actions follow a state-directed disposal drive overseen by a Narcotics Disposal Committee.

  • MBVV police incinerated 240.420 kg of seized narcotics at the Taloja waste management facility under official supervision, covering 27 NDPS cases valued at nearly ₹29.76 crore.
  • The destroyed stock included ganja, charas, mephedrone, heroin, ephedrine, cocaine, cough syrup bottles, and tablets such as Alprazolam and Tramadol.
  • Vasai crime-branch teams arrested five people in Palghar in two operations last week, seizing drugs worth ₹6.18 lakh as part of the commissionerate’s anti-narcotics campaign.
  • Two suspects, Dev Pankaj Modi and Sohel Yusuf Syed, were intercepted near Vasai West on September 27 with 0.440 mg of LSD paper, and three others were held on September 25 with 8.111 kg of ganja in Kaman village.
  • Separately, DRI officers at Mumbai airport recovered 7.95 kg of cocaine valued at about ₹79.5 crore from two women arriving from Bangkok, who were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
