Overview

  • Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered all state infrastructure projects to be finished within three years to prevent any delays.
  • The 11.84-kilometre twin tunnel is divided into a 5.75-km Borivali package and a 6.09-km Thane package and will cut current travel times from up to 90 minutes to 15 minutes.
  • At an estimated cost of Rs 12,057 crore, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by around 1.4 lakh metric tonnes annually.
  • An officer will oversee a special one-month drive offering roughly 572 households rent compensation or permanent housing under multiple resettlement schemes.
  • Officials must secure second-phase forest clearances, permissions for night-time construction and acquire additional land from Sanjay Gandhi National Park ahead of the December 2028 deadline.
