Maharashtra Sets Oct. 10–13 PAT for Classes 1–8, Restores Schools’ Term-Exam Flexibility

The council casts the test as a diagnostic tool to steer remedial teaching, with principals warning that leaks and missing analysis persist.

Overview

  • SCERT scheduled the Primary Assessment Test for October 10, 11 and 13, covering Marathi or the first language, Mathematics and English, and made it mandatory in government, aided and semi-aided schools.
  • Common question papers will be supplied statewide for the three subjects, with both written and oral components intended to check comprehension and application.
  • Schools have been told to align midterm schedules with PAT and record PAT marks in student files to avoid separate exams for these subjects.
  • Exam length and marks vary by grade, ranging from 60 minutes and 30 marks in Class 2 to 120 minutes and 60 marks in Classes 7–8.
  • Principals and teachers cite recurring issues including past paper leaks, insufficient paper deliveries and the lack of a consolidated state report, with calls to ensure correct paper counts and allow documented minor corrections.
