Overview
- The high-powered committee chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Monday to review the High Capacity Mass Rapid Transit (HCMTR), the Pune Internal Ring Road, and a proposed three-corridor tunnel network and set a target to start and complete the HCMTR by 2028.
- Officials were told to form a special purpose vehicle to raise money for the three projects and the Pune Municipal Corporation was offered nearly 30% of required government land free to improve the HCMTR’s financial case.
- The panel directed agencies to finish administrative steps within six months and accelerate land acquisition for the multi-phase 83.12 km ring road to remove long-standing delays.
- Project designs remain preliminary for the tunnel network so the committee discussed hiring an international consultant to prepare fresh detailed project reports and finalise alignments before any major construction.
- Major implementation risks remain because the HCMTR and ring road need large land parcels, clearances and large funding commitments and residents along projected corridors could face displacement, so officials said coordination, fresh DPRs and finance models are the next critical steps.
