Overview
- From January to November 2025, Maharashtra recorded 33,002 road accidents and 14,066 deaths, reflecting a 0.66% rise in crashes but a 0.83% drop in fatalities versus the same period in 2024.
- The Mumbai–Pune Expressway saw fatalities fall 26% to 61 and accidents decline to 54 from 66, according to state transport data.
- District-level declines included Nagpur city (21%), Palghar (20%), Amravati (17%), Pune (15%), Dhule (14%) and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (12%).
- The Transport Department attributed the improvements to stricter monitoring, road engineering steps, rule enforcement, awareness drives and faster emergency response.
